The Ethereum Merge will greatly reduce Ethereum’s carbon footprint. The team at Polygon revealed yesterday that the upcoming Merge will reduce the energy consumption of the Ethereum network by as much as 99.95%.
Ethereum and Polygon will almost no longer use energy
Polygon posted the tweet because they wanted to let their users know how the ETH Merge will affect Polygon. According to the Polygon team, the Merge is very good news.
“99.95%, that’s how much the move to PoS will shrink Ethereum’s power consumption, making Ethereum future-proof, just like Polygon. This is in line with our aim to become a carbon negative chain by the end of 2022,” Polygon tweeted.
The Merge will probably take place on September 15th
The Merge is the name given to the migration from Ethereum to the Proof-Of-Stake consensus. This will most likely take place on September 15th. This transition will make the network enormously more energy efficient.
As the milestone approaches, there have been various speculations about the effects the transition will have on the performance of the Ethereum network. As a result, developers had to dispel some misconceptions about the highly anticipated upgrade in a blog post last Wednesday.
Polygon is essential for Ethereum’s scalability
According to Polygon, The Merge makes Ethereum more sustainable, arguably more secure, which benefits the scaling solution, just as the Ethereum network benefits from Polygon’s scalability. In addition, Polygon notes that the Ethereum vision should become a branch layer for Layer 2 networks, so that Polygon will always be essential for the scalability needs of users.
Polygon’s statements, in particular, corroborate the statements of Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin in which he says that over time, Ethereum will become more resistant to change and more reliable. According to Buterin, more radical changes will be left to Layer 2 solutions.
It is worth noting that Polygon has achieved many impressive milestones despite the crypto winter. Polygon has entered into several major partnerships and has seen a huge increase in development activity. This is particularly evident from the data for the second quarter of 2022 which shows that approximately 1000 developers join the network on a daily basis.
