Imran has said that his statement has been presented to the world in a wrong way by the British publication The Guardian. In fact, Imran Khan had given an interview to The Guardian, during which he had expressed his anguish about the attack on Salman Rushdie. Imran had said that it was very terrible and sad. He further said that the anger of the Islamic world over Salman Rushdie’s novel The Satanic Verses is understandable but the attack on him was not justified.

Regarding his statement on social media, users wrote that Imran Khan’s statement has insulted Islam. His party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has given clarification by tweeting on behalf of Imran Khan.

In PTI’s tweet, Imran Khan said, “The Guardian has taken my speech out of context. I refused to attend the seminar because of inviting sinner Salman Rushdie to India. In the interview I talked about the Islamic perspective on punishment for blasphemers. He referred to the Sialkot tragedy and spoke of Rushdie in the same context.
Salman Rushdie attacked
Salman Rushdie was attacked with a knife by a man in New York a week ago. This left many deep wounds on his throat. He was taken to the hospital by air ambulance. Salman Rushdie is currently out of danger, but is undergoing treatment. The attacker has been identified as an Iranian national. He was furious about his novel and wanted to fulfill the fatwa of Iranian cleric Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
