Veteran Bollywood actress Ratna Pathak Shah has come under fire on social media for her comments on the Hindu festival Karva Chauth. Karva Chauth is a one-day festival celebrated by married Hindu women every day, in which women observe a fast from sunrise to moonrise and pray for the long life of their husbands.
Ratna recently said in an interview that “in the 21st century, women continue to observe ancient customs like Karva Chauth and called it ‘horrible'”. People don’t like Ratna Pathak’s statement at all, they are fiercely venting her anger on the actress.
One user compared it to Muslim women wearing hijabs, tweeting: “Modern women wearing hijabs are ‘freedom of choice’, modern women wearing Karva Chauth are ‘horrible’.”
Another said, “I do Karva Chauth because I live in a free country where I can follow what I believe in. I am a modern woman because I don’t judge others. I am also a smart woman” because I know my rights. Another commented: “What shameful thoughts, do you dare to say this to people who observe fasting or fasting? Hashtag-Ratna Pathak Shah.” Apart from this, the Twitter people are giving their response by tweeting all kinds.

It woke up modern women like #RatnaPathakShah and Twinkle Khanna leave no stone unturned in mocking or insulting Hindu culture. Girls, it’s okay if you don’t celebrate #KarwaChauth but please don’t insult the age old rituals your daddies and nannies have been following

While speaking to Pinkvilla, the actress recounted that someone asked her last year if she observes a Karva Chauth fast for her husband’s sake. To this he said: ‘Am I crazy, who would do this?’ Ratna Pathak further said: ‘Isn’t it terrible that even educated modern women do Karva Chauth? She observes a fast for the long life of her husband, so that she does not have to face the wrath of being a widow. Isn’t this a terrible situation for a widow in the Indian context? Should I do everything that can keep me away from widowhood, I wonder. Are we talking like this even in the 21st century? Surprisingly, educated women are also doing the same.
