A high deficit in energy generation is causing the prolonged blackouts suffered by different sectors of the capital and other provinces of the country.
The situation is generated due to the output of 800 megawatts of the interconnected national electrical system.
Among the plants that are outside the system are the two Los Mina units, Punta Catalina I, due to maintenance, and Itabo, due to a sargassum problem on Barahona beach.
There is a possibility that 130 megawatts will enter the system in the next few hours, a source reported to Listin Diario, noting that the problem will continue because Punta Catalina will remain out of the system for another 10 days.
The continuous blackouts keep the population irritated, because they occur in the middle of a heat wave that affects the country. Meanwhile, the authorities do not guarantee a solution in sight to make up for the energy deficit.
