M2 Extreme will have four M2 Ultra chips

The introduction of the M1 Ultra brought a new technology to the market that Apple called UltraFusion. This approach allowed the American to join two M1 Max to create this powerful processor.

This will be the ideology that Apple should follow for the launch of the M2 Extreme. The next supersumo from the American giant will be born from the union of four units of the M2 Ultra to offer impressive performance.

According to Mark Gurman, this will result in a processor with 48 CPU cores And till 128 GPU cores. Impressive numbers that will be worthy of a sweeper like the one expected from the next Mac Pro.

In addition to the number of cores that the supposed M2 Extreme will have, we must take into account the architecture and lithography of the Apple processor. In other words, the performance gains compared to the current generation could be astronomical.

So we have to remember that the current M1s are based on the A14 Bionic architecture used in the iPhone 12. Already the M2s may be based on the A15 or even the A16, which would be an impressive jump.

The distribution of the new line of M2 processors

Mark Gurman also pointed out how Apple will be able to distribute the M2 generation for its new equipment. First of all, we will have products aimed at professionals that will be distributed as follows:

  • MacBook Pro (14″ and 16″) – M2 Pro and M2 Max
  • iMac Pro – M2 Pro and M2 Max
  • Mac Studio – M2 Max and M2 Ultra
  • Mac Pro – M2 Ultra and M2 Extreme

Then we have a category aimed at less demanding users, but those who like Apple products. Namely:

  • MacBook Air – M2
  • MacBook Pro (13″)-M2
  • iMac (24″)-M2
  • Mac Mini – M2 and M2 Pro

The analyst also reports on the presentation of a new Pro XDR screen, now with a resolution of 7K. Even so, no calendar has been published for the presentation of these products.

According to some rumors, the new 13-inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pro should be announced in 2022. Models like the new Mac Mini or Mac Pro should only be announced in 2023.
