We often see Apple and Samsung as big rivals, and that’s what they are in the mobile market. But when it comes to its AMOLED screens, Apple is a strong customer of Samsung, which produces this component.
Given the renowned quality of Samsung’s mass-produced AMOLED panels, it’s hard for Apple to switch manufacturers. But this is something that could happen within two generations.
The iPhone 15 Pro may arrive with AMOLED panels manufactured by BOE
Currently, only some iPhone 13 (not Pro) have AMOLED panels from the Chinese company BOE. According to TheElec, this may be the manufacturer of choice for the panels of both iPhone 15 Pro.
An improvement in the production process could be enough for BOE to produce the panels for these two powerful smartphone models. Something that would lose Apple’s dependency on Samsung.
You must bear in mind that, at the moment, this is not confirmed information. But the truth is that BOE will have already managed to sell Apple something like 15 or 16 million units of these LTPO OLED panels. Which turns out to be a higher number than assumed.
Let’s wait for new information on this, to see if it will be possible for Apple to be less dependent on Samsung’s high-quality AMOLED panels. And while we’re talking about the iPhone 15 Pro here, it will be interesting to see if this change can start to be felt in the next-generation iPhone 14 due to launch in September.
