Named the first Muslim woman judge in American history

The first Muslim woman in US history has been named a federal judge.

US President Joe Biden on Friday named a Bangladeshi Muslim woman a federal judge for the first time in the country’s history.

According to US media reports, this is part of his administration’s policy to diversify federal courts.

Choudhury could be the second Muslim-American federal judge if approved by the Senate.

Nominated Muslim Judge Nusrat Jahan Chaudhry is the legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union Illinois and has been nominated by President Biden to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

If the US Senate approves her nomination, she will be the first Muslim woman to serve as a federal judge and a Bangladeshi-American.

There have been eight nominations in recent rounds, the thirteenth since President Biden became president a year ago.

President Biden has made 83 court nominations so far and this is part of his administration’s efforts to bring more women and people of different races into federal courts.

It is worth mentioning here that this historic step has come to the fore in the United States at a time when, for the first time in the history of Pakistan, a woman has been appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court.
