Apple always seeks to surprise users with features that distinguish their computers in the market. And now it’s been revealed that the Cupertino company could be working on a new feature for the iPhone, turning it into a portable charger.

According to a patent dating from March 2021, but only now discovered, the idea is to place a device on the iPhone screen to charge the battery. The patent, called “Trought Display Wireless Charging”, details all the technology that can be applied to both iPhone and iPad screens.

But there is an explanation in the patent that is surprising and may cause some apprehension among iOS users. According to the documentation, the area of the screen dedicated to recharging equipment would be transparent; which means that it will not display content and therefore the display area would be reduced.

Hybrid solution may not affect iPhone screen display area

Unless Apple opts for a hybrid solution and the drawings suggest that the charging area could be located immediately below the display.

Anyway, this feature can become very practical and useful for iOS users, as it allows them to charge equipment, such as a smart watch or Apple Pencil, on the screen of the iPhone and / or iPad, via a wireless connection.

Remember that it is currently possible to charge the second generation Apple Pencil, in the side area of iPad tablets, compatible with the technology. Which reinforces the idea that Apple can move forward with this concept, taking it further.

On the other hand, this patent also shows that the Cupertino company believes in the longevity of its screens, mainly because of the Ceramic Shield reinforcement that they integrate.
