The electric vehicle market promises a lot of excitement in the future with the emergence of innovative and surprising technology.
Sony, Volvo and Mercedes took advantage of CES 2022 to show what the future of electric vehicles could look like and how the latest cutting-edge technology can bring us mobility, comfort and safety, while respecting the environment and dazzling all high-tech hearts.
Sony Vision-S 02
While testing the Vision-S 01 on the roads of Europe, Sony is wasting no time and is already working on an improved version of its electric vehicle. Upgraded from the start in space, as the Vision-S 02 concept car unveiled at CES has seven seats, instead of the four included in the previous model.
But there is more and better. Using 5G technologies and Artificial Intelligence, Sony now shows a new means of transport capable of operating remotely, that is, a kind of preparation for autonomous driving and time-of-flight (ToF) sensors that recognize and authenticate drivers, too. . as a passenger monitor.
The same sensors also support gestures and voice commands to optimize the use of the car interface. The Vision-S 02 is also equipped with a new feature that allows drivers to customize the acceleration and deceleration sounds.
With a brand like Sony, entertainment could not be absent. Thus, the Vision-S 02 is equipped with the Bravia Core for Vision-S digital video service, which makes individual panoramic monitors available to passengers, similar to what happens on airplanes. Passengers can also play PlayStation by remotely connecting to the console or playing the stream through cloud services.
Mercedes Vision EQXX
Mercedes has also chosen the stage of CES 2022 to present its new electric Vision EQXX that will be able to reach all drivers in 2024/2025 and there are plenty of arguments to travel on the roads.
For starters, the Vision EQXX is capable of traveling over 1000km on a single charge. To correctly assess the distance, we are talking about the equivalent of a trip from Berlin to Paris. This means that European drivers only need to load the Mercedes tram once a month to fulfill their routine daily trips.

Not only the new and more efficient battery of the Vision EQXX contributes to this result, but also the 117 solar cells included in its roof, which store solar energy in a separate battery.

Inside, the electric features a 47.5-inch mini-LED screen that spans the entire panel and offers an astonishing 8K resolution. In this Hyperscreen Vision EQXX, as it is called, the driver accesses a real-time 3D navigation system, a voice assistant and an efficiency assistant that helps the driver achieve maximum performance, with the lowest energy consumption.
Volvo Touring Pilot

Volvo also announced new developments for the electric vehicle area in Las Vegas, but in the form of a complement to driving. More specifically, the Swedish brand has announced its Ride Pilot autonomous driving feature, which competes directly with Tesla and which will be a paid addition to the brand’s next electric SUV, due to launch later this year.
According to Volvo, the Ride Pilot will use a Luminar Iris LiDAR sensor aided by eight cameras, 16 ultrasonic sensors and even five radars so that it can correctly assess depth. The brand also guarantees that it will carry out continuous updates over the air, in order to guarantee the safety of its use.

In the words of Martin Kristensson, Volvo’s chief mobility officer, “When we say autonomous driving, we mean autonomous driving. So this will be a feature or function where the car is actually responsible for driving, so the driver is not. you need to keep your hands on the wheel. ” Now all that remains is for the European road authorities to have the same confidence in these systems.
