India: Police officer and constable arrested for taking bribe

New Delhi: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a corrupt police officer and a constable for taking bribe in exchange for leaving a confiscated vehicle.

According to Indian media, the Anti-Corruption Bureau carried out the operation in Tomacro, Karnataka, where a police sub-inspector, Somi Shekhar, ordered Constable Niaz Ahmed to accept a bribe of Rs 37,000 for leaving a confiscated police vehicle.

The constable received a bribe from the owner of the vehicle to carry out the officer’s order, but he was caught red-handed under the scheme because when the police station staff demanded a bribe from the owner of the vehicle in exchange for the vehicle, the owner of the vehicle resorted to anti-corruption. The bureau was notified.

After the citizen’s complaint, the anti-corruption agency planned to catch the corrupt police officers red-handed and asked the citizen to pay a bribe. As soon as Constable Niaz received the bribe, the anti-corruption authorities arrested him.

After the arrest of the constable, the anti-corruption team arrested Sub-Inspector Somi Shakir and reached the police station. He threw his uniform in the dustbin and fled from the police station. However, he was arrested at a distance of one kilometer.

According to foreign media, the two corrupt policemen have been remanded in custody for 14 days.
