Google Tensor: this is the new chipset that Pixel 6 brings

Google today introduced the new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which feature an original design and a set of new camera features.

However, the most interesting thing is what it brings inside, since Google used its own chipset for the first time in its phones called Tensor.

What does Google Tensor offer?

Tensor is the first processor designed by Google and was created for Pixel phones, so you probably won’t see it on a non-Pixel phone.

Google Tensor has two high-power cores, two medium-power cores, and four high-efficiency cores, although Google hasn’t given much more details about these cores.

However, the company claims that The Tensor chipset delivers performance up to 80% faster than the Pixel 5. It’s an important figure, but we should keep in mind that the Pixel 5 came with a mid-range Snapdragon 765G chipset.

Therefore, the Tensor is not necessarily more powerful than the Snapdragon 888 that most 2021 flagships incorporate.

Google pointed out that Tensor is more focused on ensuring that components work well together than on delivering maximum performance separately. Other than that, Google hasn’t made any comparisons to rival chipsets.

Google Tensor is not limited to raw power, but was designed with the machine learning and AI in mind, allowing you to improve features like speech recognition and image processing, making translation, Google Assistant, camera and other aspects of the phone faster and more accurate.

For example, this allows Pixel 6 to translate messages and videos instantly using the new feature Translate live, and means that the camera can take even better pictures and videos.

Google claims that Tensor allows you to enhance existing features and create entirely new ones, such as the newly announced Motion mode, Face Unblur mode and voice enhancement mode for videos.

Tensor can do many of these tasks with lower power consumption than other chips, according to Google, leading to longer battery life.

Another thing Google stood for is how secure is this chipset. Tensor has a security core (meaning confidential tasks can be performed in a dedicated environment) and a Titan M2 security chip. This makes the Pixel 6 line more resistant to attacks than previous models in the line.

Google claims the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have the most hardware security layers of any phone.

Google’s Tensor chipset also allows the Pixel 6 to get five years of security updateswhile other Android phones only receive a few years of updates.
