It was during its Keynote on October 18, 2021 that Apple presented its new AirPods 3. This is the second generation strictly speaking. After the small changes introduced by the AirPods 2 in 2019, the new headphones bring several notable evolutions. Design, sound quality, spatial audio, autonomy… everything has been revised.
💰 Where to buy AirPods 3 at the best price?
AirPods 3 are in pre-order at the price of 199 euros at Apple’s partner stores. For the moment, they are available at Boulanger and Fnac / Darty. Deliveries start on October 26, 2021. Like the previous models, the new AirPods are offered in a single white color.
In the box, we find in addition to headphones, the MagSafe wireless charging box, a Lightning to USB-C cable and of course the documentation. Note that the AirPods 3 offer 6 hours of autonomy which can go up to 30 hours with the charging case. The latter can be recharged using a MagSafe charger, any other Qi certified wireless charger or by wire using the Lightning connector.
🤔 AirPods 3: what’s new and different from AirPods 2?
As we announced in the introduction, the AirPods 3 are completely different compared to the AirPods 2. Let’s start with the most obvious: their design. The difference is obvious, even if the “discovery” effect is not there since we have an identical appearance to that of the AirPods Pro. The shank is 33% shorter and the shape of the ear cups has been changed to better hold and better sound propagation in the ear canal.
Another novelty, the AirPods 3 offer spatial audio with dynamic head movement tracking for immersive three-dimensional sound. Thanks to the’Adaptive EQ (adaptive equalization), the music adapts to the shape of your ears. The low and medium frequencies are automatically adjusted to provide you with the best sound reproduction.
In addition, AirPods 3 offer better battery life: 6 hours of listening time compared to 5 hours for AirPods 2. The new charging case also offers up to 26 additional hours of battery life for a total of 30 hours. The previous generation offered 24 hours for everything.
Finally, at the level of the sensors, there are two beamforming microphones for spatial filtering, a pressure sensor to control everything by touch, an indoor microphone, an accelerometer to detect movements. You also have skin detection sensors and a voice detecting accelerometer. Finally, the AirPods 2 are water and sweat resistant (IPX4 certification).
