The OLED Switch barely released, the Switch 4K is already talking about it

The OLED Switch barely released, the ball of rumors around the next version of the machine resumes. This time, a YouTuber talks about a new Switch model, which would simply be a new console. But the suggested strategy doesn’t really seem to be credible.

The first half of 2021 was marked by the many rumors regarding the Switch Pro. Many imagined a 1080p display, 4K compatibility as well as a new processor. Eventually, Nintendo released the OLED Switch, a version that simply adopts an OLED display (as the name suggests).

The arrival of the OLED Switch did not stop the rumors, far from it. Bloomberg had indicated that a 4K version of the console was still in the works at Nintendo (the company denied). Today, it is an often well-informed YouTuber who adds his stone to the building by evoking a Switch 2 outright.

NateDrake says he relies on numerous sources to claim that the Switch Pro does not exist, since Nintendo is developing a new console: the Switch 4K. He specifies that he does not know if the Kyoto firm was going to sell it as the Switch 2 or the Switch 4K, but it would be a new generation.

Switch 4K could be Switch 2

It would use Nvidia’s DLSS technology to deliver fluid gaming in ultra high definition. If this machine could be backwards compatible, it could also have its exclusives, games that would not work on the classic Switch and OLED, in short. NateDrake is banking on a release between late 2022 and early 2023.

In the facts, releasing a new console on this date is far from absurd. The Switch will then be almost six years old and will be at the end of its life. However, releasing a machine using the name and format of the Switch still seems complicated for Nintendo, scalded by the failure of the Wii U. We remember that the brand, wanting to continue to build on the colossal success of the Wii in the early 2010s, the Wii U was released. Badly marketed, this generation did not appeal to players, most of whom thought it was only an improved version. Bringing out a 4K Switch would reproduce the same error. Conversely, abandoning the formula introduced by the Switch would also be madness.

No doubt Nintendo is currently working on its next generation of console. But it would still be very surprising if we only had a “beast” Switch with games in 4K. He is still too good to know it …
