The new OLED Switch should arrive tomorrow with the first customers who have pre-ordered the console. Although this brings some very interesting new features such as the new OLED screen, the Ethernet port, the new speakers or the wider adjustable stand, Nintendo has also made it difficult to access an important part of the console.

Indeed, Nintendo has revised the design of the game card slot cover located at the top of the right side of the new OLED console. As can be seen in the image above, the latter no longer has the characteristic notch that allowed the hatch to be simply opened.

You will need your fingernails to change game cards

On the OLED Switch, the absence of a notch which made it possible to easily open the door for the cartridges will make the operation much more complicated. There is always a space, but it is much thinner and therefore more difficult to find, unless you have long nails.

Leverage could therefore be much more difficult than on the previous generation, which should not appeal to everyone. We imagine that players with big hands or children will have a much harder time switching games on this new OLED Switch.

It’s unclear why Nintendo changed the cover design for the cartridges, but it could be that the company wanted to better secure this port. Making the cards harder to access would prevent the hatch from accidentally opening or having someone who wants to see you play take the cartridge out of you too easily.

Either way, we’ll tell you what we think about it during our Nintendo Switch OLED review. The console will be available to everyone from tomorrow, but like the PS5 and Xbox Series X, shortages are to be expected. Indeed, the console is already a victim of its success in countries like Japan, some players should also have trouble getting one here.
