A 9-year-old Argentine motorcyclist, Lorenzo Somaschini, has tragically passed away following an accident during training at the Interlagos racetrack in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The accident occurred during the first free practice sessions of the fourth round of the Honda Junior SuperBike Brazil Cup.
Somaschini was rushed to the Albert Einstein Hospital in the Brazilian city after suffering a fall on the Pinheirinho curve at Interlagos. Despite receiving medical treatment, his condition ultimately deteriorated, and he succumbed to his injuries.
The SuperBike Brasil organization expressed their deepest condolences to Somaschini’s family and friends, stating that the entire team is “shocked” by the news.
Somaschini’s coach, former pilot Diego Pierluigi, paid tribute to his protégé on social media, saying goodbye with a heavy heart and vowing to miss him dearly.
Pierluigi also shared his thoughts on the accident, stating that it was a “misfortune” that unfolded due to a combination of factors, including the low speed of the fall and the perfect condition of the safety measures in place.
