9 people died, 11 sick due to gas spill in Punjab factory

9 people died due to gas leak in a factory in Punjab, India. Apart from this, 11 other people have been admitted to the hospital due to illness.

The accident took place in Ludhiana region of the province on Sunday. News from India Today

A team of rescuers rushed there after the gas leak. They were joined by doctors, ambulance and fire brigade personnel at the spot. The area has now been cordoned off and general public movement has been restricted.

Ludhiana sub-divisional magistrate Swati Tiwana said, ‘It is definitely a gas leak incident. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is currently on the spot and will carry out rescue operations there. In this incident, 9 people were killed and 11 people were sick.

He also said that what kind of gas it is and how the gas leaked is not yet known. NDRF team will investigate the matter.’

According to India Today, a 35-member Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) team of NDRF has been deployed in the area following the incident. who specialize in handling gas leak incidents.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that everything necessary for the rescue operation has been provided and more details about the incident will be given later.
