89% of the Spanish population would be vaccinated with the additional dose against covid-19

The Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) has just released the eighth round of results of the COSMO-Spain Study, promoted by the World Health Organization (who)

The work, which evaluates from May 2020 the knowledge and perception of the risk of the population facing the Covid-19, Its main objective is to provide relevant and up-to-date information to help fight the epidemic.

Among the results, a new maximum of confidence in the vaccines, a decrease in the concern with the SARS-CoV-2 which consolidates a trend already observed in previous research and a growing optimism regarding the management and evolution of the pandemic.

least worry

In this new research, the general concern about the coronavirus drops dramatically and, for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, less than 39% of the population report high levels of concern compared to 49% of the previous round.

In addition, optimism about the pandemic situation is increasing significantly. 80% of respondents realize that the worst is over, against 54% of the previous one. However, the Ministry of Health insists on the importance of maintaining the basic measures to control the pandemic, which are the promotion of vaccination and the use of face mask indoors, the handwashing and the safety distance.

O confidence in vaccination hits a new record in the studio. 94% of respondents say they have already received some dose of the vaccine or that they would be vaccinated, a number that already stood out in the previous round with a 93%.

Satisfaction levels are positive for all relevant aspects assessed related to vaccination, and all increase in relation to the previous survey.

In addition, a new confidence factor emerges in the study, as it was asked for the first time about the intention to vaccinate if the health authorities recommended a additional dose of the covid-19 vaccine: 89% of respondents indicate they would receive it.

Consequences of pandemic fatigue

The level of knowledge about the coronavirus again shows a slight decrease, a fact that can be partially explained by the less worry, reducing the search for information – only the 19% of the population indicates that they consult information about the coronavirus several times a day and the 40% this never or almost never happens – and the consequences of so-called pandemic fatigue.

Something similar happens with adherence to Preventive measures, which is still very high, but there is a small drop possibly linked to the best indicators of the pandemic, progressive openness and less concern.

O trust in health services (hospitals, health centres, etc.) is maintained, while increasing confidence in the Ministry of Health, in the autonomous communities and in the situation of educational centers.

Agreement with decisions taken to reduce the spread of the coronavirus in Spain has also increased, as the proportion of people who consider the decisions taken to be appropriate rose to 33%, compared to 26% in the previous round.

Besides the scientific community It remains the most confidence-building group facing the challenges of the coronavirus.

In this eighth round participated 1,042 residents in Spain, over 18 years of age and with similar distribution by sex. 34% were between 45 and 60 years old; 32%, university studies, and most participants (54%) reported being working, of which 47% indicated working in person in environments with moderate risk of contagion.
