78-Year-Old Man Stabbed in Neck in Montevideo’s Barrio Sur Apartment; Son Finds Body

A son’s mounting worry led to a grim discovery late Thursday afternoon in Montevideo’s Barrio Sur. He had tried to reach his 78-year-old father by phone throughout the week. Their last conversation had been the previous Friday. But as days passed, calls went unanswered, and his concern grew.

Finally, the son went to his father’s apartment. It was located on the 15th floor of a building at Convención and Durazno. He found his father lying dead in the living room. Police were immediately called to the scene.

Authorities quickly labeled the death a homicide. A kitchen knife was discovered near the victim’s neck, a key piece of evidence. The Scientific Police unit arrived to process the scene. The Homicide Department also began its work there.

Investigators took the black plastic-handled knife. They also collected other key items. These included a rug and a towel showing bloodstains. The body was sent to the Forensic Institute. There, an autopsy will be performed to learn more.

Meanwhile, Homicide Prosecutor Sabrina Flores gave orders to the police. She told them to check security cameras from the building and the neighborhood. She also asked them to question the son and any other witnesses.
