50 Cent Thrilled by Taylor Swift Mention in New Album The Life of a Showgirl

Taylor Swift’s new album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ is now out, offering fans a deep look into her private moments. It’s not just a collection of songs; it’s a peek behind the curtain of her life. And it turns out, the album has already caught the attention of some surprising names.

One unexpected celebrity fan is none other than 50 Cent. Curtis Jackson, as he’s known off stage, was thrilled about a special mention. He posted the album cover on Instagram on Friday, October 3rd. He made sure to thank Swift, who is 35, for including him in her song "Ruin the Friendship."

His Instagram caption was playful. "Taylor Swift is on fire right now," he wrote. "She mentioned me, but she didn’t mention you. LOL, this is for big boys only!" He even joked, "Wait, I’m the only mention on the whole album."

The lyric where 50 Cent gets his shout-out is quite clear: "And it wasn’t an invitation / But as the 50 Cent song played / I should have kissed you anyway." Technically, another name pops up in the album. The second track is titled "Elizabeth Taylor." This means the late actress also gets a nod.

Swift’s new album also has other clever hints. Several tracks seem to point to her fiancé, Travis Kelce. For instance, "Opalite" reportedly tells the story of their journey together. It details how they eventually found each other. In "Father Figure," Swift appears to allude to Olivia Rodrigo, Scooter Braun, and Scott Borchetta. "Actually Romantic" sounds like a song aimed at Charli XCX.

Initially, fans thought "Ruin the Friendship" might be about Swift’s complicated relationship with her friend Blake Lively. However, the song actually holds a much deeper, more personal meaning. It’s a touching tribute to her high school friend, Jeff Lang. Lang passed away from an overdose in 2010. He had been struggling with mental health issues before his death.

The song’s repeated line, "I should have kissed you anyway," suggests Swift is pondering what could have been. She seems to wonder if both friends should have been honest about their feelings. Later in the song, she remembers her friend Abigail Anderson Berard calling with the devastating news. Swift sings about regret and unspoken words. She reflects on whispering at the grave, "I should have kissed you anyway."

Swift has a history of honoring Lang. She sang at his funeral years ago. Weeks later, she spoke about that emotional time in a video message. This was for the BMI Country Awards. She was accepting her Country Songwriter of the Year award. "It’s been a very emotional week for me," she told the audience. She then dedicated the award to Lang. "Yesterday I sang at the funeral of one of my best friends," she shared. "He was 21. I used to show him my songs first. So I want to thank Jeff Lang."

This isn’t the first time Swift has spoken about Lang in her songs. "Forever Winter" appeared on 2023’s Red (Taylor’s Version). That "vault track" also discussed a friend fighting substance abuse. She sings, "Too young to know it gets better / I’ll be the summer sun for you forever."

Swift first announced ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ in August. She explained the album would explore parts of her life. It was "everything that was going on behind the curtain" during her Eras Tour. On Kelce’s "New Heights" podcast, she further explained her vision. "This album isn’t really about what happened to me on stage," she said. "It talks about what I was living off stage. It’s life beyond the show."
