A 43-year-old woman was found dead in her home in Punta Negra, a coastal town near Piriápolis in Maldonado, early Tuesday. Someone called the police to report a woman’s body inside a house. Officers arrived and saw signs of strangulation. A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He has no prior convictions and is now being held by the authorities. The police seized a .22 caliber pistol with no ammunition from the suspect. The prosecutor’s office will investigate to determine if it was a femicide.
