
Four people were killed in a fire in the Iraqi city of Karbala on the holy day of Ashura. Thousands of Shia Muslims gathered in the city to observe Ashura on Friday.
This information was given in a report of the news agency AFP on Saturday, citing the country’s emergency services.
It is said that this fire took place near the tomb of Imam Hussain (R.A.), the son of the Holy Prophet (S.A.) in the city of Karbala.
A statement from Iraq’s emergency services agency said that according to preliminary information, the fire started from a gas cylinder in the kitchen of a temporary tent for Ashura pilgrims. The fire later spread to a nearby market. Later, fire service personnel went to the spot and doused the fire.
