30 Haitian migrants detained in Turks and Caicos waters

A group of 30 Haitian migrants21 men, nine women and a child under 2 years of age, were arrested while trying to illegally arrive at the turks and caicos islandslocal authorities reported this Saturday.

According to information offered by the royal force Turks and Caicos Police, the undocumented were arrested at 5:38 p.m. (21:38 GMT) on Friday, 96 kilometers southeast of Providenciales, southwest of the Caribbean territory.

According to local authorities, these were alerted by the United States Coast Guard and Customs and Border Protection about a suspicious vessel approaching Providenciales.

Following the warning, a Turks and Caicos security force vessel moved to the suspicious ship 7 meters long, made of fiberglass and two motors, where the undocumented traveled.

The immigrants were taken this Saturday morning to Safe Harbor and turned over to Turks and Caicos Immigration officials for due process.

This is the sixteenth vessel loaded with undocumented immigrants that the Turks and Caicos security forces intervened this year.

According to the local Police, since January 1 of this year, they have arrested a total of 1,792 migrants who have tried to reach the territory.
