29 Dominican migrants detained while trying to reach Puerto Rico are repatriated

The US Coast Guard reported this Friday that it repatriated 29 migrants to the Dominican Republicafter intercepting their vessels in the Mona Channel, off the west coast of Puerto Rico.

A marine unit of the United Rapid Action Forces of the Puerto Rico Police intercepted a first vessel off the coast of Aguada (northwest) with eight citizens of the Dominican Republic on board.

For his part, Coast Guard patrolman Donald Horsley intercepted a ssecond improvised boat with 17 nationals of the Dominican Republic, according to the statement.

The rest of the Dominican migrants repatriated yesterday had been detained in previous operations.

From October 1, 2022 to April 30, 2023, the Coast Guard has detained 992 immigrants (758 Dominicans) in the waters of Puerto Ricomost of them in the Mona Channel, which is the main migratory route between the two islands.

Two days ago, the US Coast Guard also reported the repatriation to the Dominican Republic of 96 immigrants detained in three boats in the Mona Channel.
