2,500 dead seals found in the Caspian Sea

The Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Republic of Dagestan has reported that there are already 2,500 dead seals found on the shores of the Caspian Sea.

"The corpses are in different places", explained the Ministry in a message published on Telegram. The highest concentration occurs in the Yuzbash area and between the mouths of the Sulak and Shurinka rivers.

The bodies are already being examined to determine the cause of death by studying the pathological material, reports the Russian news agency Interfax.

On Saturday, between 650 and 700 dead seals were found in the Kirovsky district of Makhachkala, Dagestan, between a fuel depot and the mouth of the Sulak River.

Until now, the examination of the internal organs of the seals does not support the hypotheses that pointed to poisoning with heavy metals or pesticides.
