With just two months remaining in 2025, the Indian film industry has seen significant box office activity. The year has been particularly strong for cinema. A standout South Indian film has claimed the top spot in the list of highest-grossing movies.
“Kantara Chapter 1” has emerged as the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025 so far. The pan-India release ascended to the number one position after its October 2 premiere. This pushed Vicky Kaushal’s “Chhaava” to second place.

“Kantara Chapter 1” has amassed a worldwide gross collection ranging from approximately $102.4 million to $108.4 million USD. “Chhaava,” a Bollywood production released in February, had previously led the box office. Its worldwide gross stands between $96.1 million and $97.5 million USD.
The third spot on the top 10 list belongs to “Saiyaara,” a Bollywood film starring Ahan Pandey and Aneet Padda. Released on July 18, it garnered approximately $69.8 million USD. Rajinikanth’s “Coolie” is fourth, with a worldwide gross of around $81.3 million USD. The film “War” rounds out the top five.

Only four Bollywood films have secured positions in this year’s top 10 highest-grossing Indian movies. These include “Chhaava,” “Saiyaara,” “War 2,” and Aamir Khan’s “Sitaare Zameen Par.” The majority of the list comprises six films from South Indian cinema.
