20-Year-Old Arrested for Bomb Threats Against Educational Institutions in Uruguay

A 20-year-old with a history of criminal activity is now facing charges. He’s accused of making fake bomb threats against schools.

The case went to court on Sunday. The judge decided the young man must stay at home with an electronic monitor for 120 days. He’ll wait for a final verdict during this time.

This isn’t his first run-in with the law. He already had restrictions for a previous crime.

The threats started on Saturday. Police looked into 20 phone calls and 5 emails sent to over 12 public and private institutions. These fake threats are still being investigated. Some people are still unknown, and others are being looked at.

A security guard was caught making similar threats to a mall and two other places. He got 6 months of probation.

A woman who worked at the mall is also in trouble. She’s accused of making threats and will have to stay home for 45 days with a monitor. She says she didn’t do it, but the investigation is ongoing.

The minister of the interior says these are just the beginning of the results. He’s hopeful that everyone involved will be found and brought to justice.

The police are still looking into a threat made against a university. Someone sent an email saying a person with a gun would attack a faculty.
