A 15-year-old Japanese boy has been arrested for stabbing an 84-year-old woman to death. The attack happened on Sunday, May 11, 2025, around 5 p.m. in the Wakaba district of Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture. The victim was Yayoi Takahashi.
The teenager, a junior high school student, allegedly stabbed Takahashi from behind with a knife-like object while she was walking on a street. Authorities believe this was a random attack since the two didn’t know each other. The boy has admitted to the crime.
Police received an emergency call at around 5:10 p.m. on Sunday. They found Takahashi lying in a pool of blood and rushed her to the hospital, but she died shortly after. The attack occurred in a residential area, just 300 meters north of Sakuragi Station, shocking local residents.
Community in Shock
A 70-year-old woman who lives nearby said she was the same age group as the victim and couldn’t defend herself if attacked from behind. A 68-year-old man picking up his grandchild from a nearby elementary school warned his grandchild to press their personal emergency alert if anything happened. Some children didn’t attend school on Monday due to the incident.
