The Indian Premier League has a history of launching new stars, with each season bringing a fresh talent to the forefront. The latest to make waves is 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who recently smashed a century off just 35 balls. This feat not only made headlines but also etched his name in IPL history as the second-fastest centurion. Suryavanshi’s achievement has sparked speculation about his potential future in Team India.
A Golden Arm, But Not Quite Ready for Team India
Despite the buzz around Suryavanshi, there’s a significant hurdle between him and his dream of playing for Team India. According to ICC rules, a player must be at least 15 years old to debut in international cricket. Suryavanshi is currently 14 years and 37 days old, so he’ll have to wait about 11 months to meet this requirement. However, the Board can make a special request to the ICC to consider allowing players under 15 to participate.
The current record for the youngest Indian player to debut in international cricket is held by Sachin Tendulkar, who made his debut at 16 years and 205 days in 1989.
Suryavanshi’s Rising Star in IPL 2025
Suryavanshi has been on fire in IPL 2025, scoring 151 runs in four matches, including a century. With just five first-class matches under his belt, Suryavanshi has already made a name for himself in domestic cricket, playing for Bihar.
