The upcoming game, 007 First Light, is setting some high expectations. Its creators are pushing themselves to build what they hope will be the best weapon system in games today. This is big news from a team known for intricate gameplay.

Andreas Krogh, the game director for 007 First Light, shared these goals in a recent talk with PC Gamer, reported by GamesRadar. He explained a major shift from their past work. In this new Bond adventure, using ranged weapons is not a last resort. This is quite different from the Hitman series. In those games, players usually avoid gunfights. They see it as their final option.
Krogh stated, “In Hitman, we view ranged combat as a last resort for most players, and that’s what Hitman players will try to avoid using the most.” He then added, “But this time we have a character who can choose ranged weapons if there is a suitable opportunity.” This means players will likely feel more comfortable engaging in firefights as Bond.
The team at IO Interactive wants to craft a weapon system that feels incredibly smooth. They are aiming for technical excellence. This includes weapons that react well and feel good to use. It suggests a focus on fluid aiming and precise feedback.

Think about Agent 47 in Hitman. If he gets caught, dealing with many enemies at once can be tough. But James Bond, while also good at stealth, can handle a direct gun battle much better than 47 when things get messy. This allows for a wider range of player choices.
Krogh elaborated on this player experience. He said, “Our goal is that even if you try stealth and make a mistake, you have to deal with the situation in a slightly different way, but you will definitely get a satisfying gun-shooting experience.” This means players won’t feel punished for failing stealth, but instead transition into exciting gunplay.
007 First Light is slated for release on March 27, 2026. It will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
